VPN stops all internet traffic when started

Hello, I bought the 3 day trial for PureVPN a couple of days ago and yesterday it worked ok but today whenever I connect to a server (PPTP, L2PT or SSTP) in a range of locations I instantly lose any connection to the internet. Under the network icon it says that both the VPN and my normal connection are connected with internet access but I can not open any webpage and my torrent downloads go straight to 0 KB/s.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and connecting to the internet with a wireless router, I live in New Zealand so I am a fair way away from the closest server (Malaysia). I have turned off McAfee firewall on my pc. My ISP is Telecom New Zealand (if that helps).
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really have no idea what to do next and would like to get this sorted before the end of my 3 day trial so I can decide whether PureVPN is right for me.

Dear Alex,

Could you please confirm if you have some sort of ICS or SoftAP (Wifi) sharing enabled on your Windows 7? Have you been previously using some other kind of VPN system?

Also please try to close down torrents completely before connecting to VPN and see if that helps?
