    Question Dedicated L2PT disconnects

Hello. I am having a consistent problem in that I am disconnected from the L2PT VPN connection every 2 hours or so. If I restart IKE and AuthIP, IPsec policy agent it usually solves the problem but causes me to be offline for a few minutes or so. I really need to stop these disconnects from happening.

Some details. I am running windows 7 from my HP laptop. I am not using a router. I have my firewall configured so that when I lose my ipsec VPN connection, all programs are blocked from reaching the internet.

From my research thus far the most likely explanation I have found is something to do with the DHCP lease renewal. I did a manual DHCP renewal when connected to the vpn and had the exact same symptoms I normally see. If this is the problem, is there a way to stop my pc from renewing the lease, or to allow my firewall to let the renewal pass through?

    Thanks for your help.

    Dear Fjb,

Thank you for posting in our forums.

Have you tried to switch to PPTP and see if that helps? DHCP renewal couldn't be a problem because there are sessions that remain active for as long as 4-7 days without a single disconnect.

Let me know your finding on PPTP then we'll see it,

    Regards,

I have not tried PPTP as I really prefer to use L2PT. I have another laptop coming in a few days so I guess I will set everything up on there and see if the problem is duplicated.

Another oddity with my issue is that when Pure vpn goes down and will not connect, I can instantly connect through my secondary vpn I have with another provider (and vise versa, one does not work better than the other).

Thanks for your help thus far.

I have tracked the problem today. It happens every 2 hours, on the dot. Over and over and over again. Insanely frustrating. I don't understand how this could happen like this and not have something to do with some sort of ip renewal or something. I don't doubt that others have long sessions, I know it is something wrong with my laptop specifically. I just don't know how to fix it. Please help.

    Hi Fjb,

As you are seeing exactly same behavior on your secondary VPN it might be some issue on your Windows OS. Do you have any smart phone or some other machine where you could try it?

I have set up a new computer and will test it once my dedicated IP is no longer showing up as "Proxy server detected."

    Hi Fjb,

Sure. Regarding the "Proxy detection" please make sure you are not connected on both computers simultaneously and that you are getting the IP assigned (via whatismyip.com)

    Awaiting your update,

After connecting my new laptop I am no longer having the issue. This is enough to solve the problem for me as I can simply use this laptop to connect from now on. Indeed it seems it was a problem with my OS.

However my ip is still coming up as being behind a proxy. I have never connected with more than one computer at a time so I am confused as to why this keeps happening. I also made a post about this in the designated thread for this problem.
    Thanks.

    Hi FJB,

Can you confirm the IP you get is actually your assigned IP address? Since it will deal with live IPs and info I would suggest you put it in private support ticket here:
http://billing.purevpn.com/submitticket.php (Don't forget to put reference to this thread in ticket)

    Awaiting you there,

    Regards,
