    Default Encryption over Android connection

I'm a little confused. If I set up a PPTP connection on my Android phone, will that connection be encrypted? (I have to put the Android menu's setting for Encryption to "off" for it to connect.)

If there is no encryption, what is the VPN doing? Just giving me a new IP address?

    Thanks.

(By-the-way, an attempt to set up an L2TP connection didn't work.)

    Hi Paul,

We recommend the most secure method of VPN connection ie L2TP PSK - Problem is that, and what googling confirms, there are many Android user's facing issues with VPN. Still it's unsure whether it's Android OS that has issues OR it's Windows servers OS that is at odd.

For us we have tested our system on HTC Wildfire running Android 2.2 and it's working fine both with L2TP PSK and with PPTP (with encryption)

Another possibility here could be that you are connecting to a "Optimal security" server that is not up to your purpose, we advise you consult here for "Higher Security" servers:

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply. Alas, it did not work. I tried the more secure servers. I reset everything and set up a connection anew. Still would not connect.

Although it is not as secure, is a PPTP connection encrypted? When I checked the encrypt tick box in Android, it wouldn't connect. Only when it was unchecked would it work.

FWIW, I am using Android 2.2.

    Hi Paul,

Those High Security servers that you tried, do they work if you set them to "no encryption"?

Can you tell me which servers did you try that worked for you even without encryption?

The server us6.purevpn.net worked, but only when encryption is disabled.

One more thing Paul. Have you been using connection over Wifi or over 3G?

Is there a way to also test on Wifi? It may have to do something with ports especially when you say L2TP isn't working.

    Let us know,

I've been using Wifi. Haven't tried a 3G connection yet.

So on Wifi is there any other device you tested than Android? That should reveal something.

Okay, I got around to trying to connect with my ASUS netbook. It, too, would not connect in any way I tried and I tried several.

Paul this confirms issue on your own network since 2 different devices aren't able to connect. BTW on ASUS did you try both PPTP and L2TP?
