    Default Media Extenders

    Hi

I have a question about media extenders and VPN. I live in Canada and if I wanted to access services in the States could I do so through a media extender that can access the internet with a browser. Also if the media extender offers Netflix and maybe Hulu services and I connect it to my internet can I stream from the states.

Lastly can I install VPN services on a media extender and if so does anyone know the best one to get?

    Thanks in Advance

    Hello,

Can you give some examples of media extenders you may be looking as possible purchase options? We'll do some research if they could be connected with VPN.

    HI Thanks for the response

There was a couple of ones I was looking at and those where :

    1) Western Digital WDTV Live HD Network Media Player
    2) D-LINK Boxee Box HD Wireless Streaming HD Media Player
    3) Western Digital WD TV Live Hub
    3) Patriot Box Office Network Media
    4) Ps3

A lot of these stremers are basically the same. They have access to Netflix and Hilu (American) and some kind of web browsing to tv station.

I guess my question is still. If I bought one of the media streamers like these and wanted to stream from the states could I do that? Also can I get my ps3 to be seen with a American IP address.

    Thanks for your time

    Dear Advocate,

Did some research and your option #2 looks like the way forward.
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=438

But only if you first setup a separate router and first dial VPN from router as explained here:
    http://www.purevpn.com/vpn-service/router-vpn.php

From the D-link advisory on this particular product i found this recommended modem:
    http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=565

Which I found compatible with DD-WRT as well:
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

    Another great option:
    http://www.dlink.com/boxee/

but again you will need to first get your router to connect with one of our fast VPN servers that will then supply the USA IP address to the Boxee.

Another option is to get a PS3 and hookup PC with it as described here:
    http://www.maxmood.com/bypass_xbox_live_purevpn.pdf

But it might slow down speed as compared to option #1.

    I hope this helps,
    The PureVPN Team
