    Default Mail Protocol Support

Why am I not able to send emails through Microsoft Outlook using my VPN service? When I disconnect from the VPN, the email then sends out like normal.

The specific error I get in Outlook is: "Outlook cannot connect to your out-going SMTP email server."

On the FAQ, it states that "Mail" protocol is supported.

    From purevpn.com/faq.php, the 4th Q&A says:

Q: Does it also protect other protocols like ICQ, Mail or FTP.
A: Once you are connected to our VPN server, all programs use a virtual network interface, which protects all programs that access internet on your computer.

Simple MAIL Transfer Protocol should be supported!

it's probabyl becasue once you connect to the VPN, and your outlook is still configured to use your ISP's servers, you look like you are coming from an outside network. providers will not relay mail from another network unless you are logged into the mail server ... and most ISP's don;t even support that.

you could try using google or yahoos servers perhaps

Thankyou very much en1gma for posting an answer

Getting to the question raised by Vipervin, so this is because of high abuse of our network that involves spamming, we have disallowed sending emails through VPNs. Although for premium customers or corporates we could allow emails through our VPN network.

    Hope this clarifies our stance.

I had already assumed the explanation in the second response but after reading the response from purevpn I am disappointed that the Inconveyance I expereince everytime i want to send an email (close VPN send then start again and wait for applications my messaging to restart) is created by purevpn.

It really is a pain but as i send about 5 emails a day not a big issue

However why not give all users an allowance say 50 emails a day No spammer can work with that limited number and it would make your service so much better.

Otherwise I will always be on the outlook for a VPN service that does not give me that inconveyance

I too was briefly puzzled by the failure to send (authenticated) over either US or UK VPN until I found this post. I agree the all-out block on 25 is a nuisance, even a brief disconnect to send an urgent email plays havoc with streamed media.

If you can, you might be able to persuade your ISP to give you access to an alternative to port 25 for communicating with your SMTP server or your ISP likely already may give you the option to use a secure protocol such as SSL which uses port 465 and works for me.

Has the above workaround been blocked in the last week?

    Dear Phaethon,

Yes unfortunately after continued spamming incidents we were forced to blocked the alternate ports too. Spam can not be tolerated.

    Sincerely,
